1D barcode example

1D barcodes

1D barcodes are often used on the sides of tubes and microplates.

These barcodes can be reader with laser or CCD devices, although most available readers are for hand use rather than automated use.

 

2D barcodes on tubes

2D barcodes

2D barcodes are usually used on the base of flat-bottom tubes.

These tubes can only be read with scanners that "photograph" the pattern, decode it, and relay the decoded information.
