Introduction |
| |
PAA have had a long association with the forensic service specialty, in fact Overlord Workstation (Overlord1) was written originally for the Forensic Science Service in the UK. Our software and hardware is used in the UK, Dutch and Australian forensic science laboratories. |

The UK and Dutch Forensic Science Services are using Overlord2, with one socket, to transfer DNA dilution profiles to a Qiagen liquid handler from their LIMS. The Qiagen liquid handler performs the dilutions and Overlord2 creates a data file which is transferred back to the LIMS.
The advantages are:
• Simple configurable communication with any LIMS
• Overlord2 can handle any file format including csv and xml
• Overlord2 interprets the DNA concentration data
• Easy to implement and user friendly interface
• Barcode reader driver included for positive sample tracking
• Overlord2 has the largest driver base available
• Can be used with all available liquid handlers and readers
• Compatible chain of custody product automate.it storstar

With the addition of a couple of extra Overlord2 sockets the normalization process can include automated sample transfer to a plate reader and subsequent sample normalization based upon the DNA concentrations.

Traceable sample loading and tracking |
| |
 |
|
Most laboratories have sample tracking for the data for the samples. Often there is a database of samples in a microplate that has been 'bought in' from outside. Rarely is there a positive identification of microplate contents when the plate is made up internally. No place is this more important than a forensic science DNA laboratory.
