paa has integrated the IN Cell 2000 into a range of workcells using the automate.it scara robot and our range of Mitsubishi factory robots.

The standard automated workcell consists of:

• GE Healthcare IN Cell 2000 imaging system
• automate.it scara robot
• barcode reader
• safety screen (optional extra required by some company safety officers)

The process:

1. get plate from input stack, read barcode, open plate reader draw
2. put plate in plate reader, run plate reader (with plate ID information)
3. when plate read complete, open plate reader draw, get plate from plate reader
4. put plate in output stack, move plate reader data to the required folder on PC or server

As with all Overlord3 applications, any of the 402 instruments can be used in a workcell. The application (left) is using the Mitsubishi factory robot.

The automation system for the IN Cell 2000 instrument is:

• large capacity (75 lidded plates, 90 unlidded plates)

Here is an example at Columbia University (New York, NY, USA) that was installed by a paa customer in their high Throughput Screening laboratory (installation details).

The system has the options to perform several imaging modes including Object Intensity, Nuclear Trafficking,  Plasma Membrane Trafficking, Granularity, Cell Cycle Trafficking, Morphology, Dual Object, Neurite Outgrowth, Micro Nuclei, Multi-Target Analysis using the instrument's large CCD camera (resolution 2048 x 2048 pixels) allowing whole-well imaging in 96 or 384 well microplates.

The software is using the Spotfire graphing and filtering tools of and allows for up to a four independent users to perform the analysis simultaneously. The instrument is integrated with Cytomat microplate managing stations via Mitsubishi robotic manipulator, enabling the users to perform the high-throughput screens of up to a 180 microplates per set.
