Introduction Introduction

Sometimes the piece of equipment you require just does not exist. It is the solution of last resort, always buy before manufacture, but sometimes you just have to design from scratch.

Case Study 1: Forensic Science Service (FSS), UK Case Study 1: Forensic Science Service (FSS), UK
  WELLstar sample loading system

When the FSS required a device to ensure that swap samples (buccal scrape samples as they are known) were placed in the correct wells of a deep well microplate, they asked PAA to help.

The problem is really quite straight forward, all that as needed was an XY robot with accurate control. So PAA commissioned a suitable system from one of our design partners Sands Technology (strobotics.com).

The WELLstar was designed, manufactured, installed and used successfully until replaced with version 2, the dual loading TUBEstar.

The WELLstar is described in one of our downloads, see LA232 automate.it WELLstar™ For Complete Confidence In Sample Tracking.

This device has been enhanced in the new automate.it storstar, via the automate.it TUBEstar.

Introduction Case Study 2: Syngenta, UK
  automate.it X-link plate transport system

Syngenta were worried about a robot entering the workspace of their Beckman FX with 96 pin head.

PAA were commissioned to produce a linear slide that could pass the microplates from the robot into the Beckman FX work area for use. PAA commissioned Hasfield Systems to design and build an electric slide. The X-Link has been in successful use since 2003.

The X-link is described in one of our downloads, see LA224 automate.it X-Link
