Laboratory Automation News
The SQUIRT microplate washer is designed for reliability either as a bench top device or in an integrated robotic system.
SQUIRT microplate washers can wash any 96, 384 and 1536 well SBS formatted plate without manifold exchange or adjustment at speeds up to three wash/dry cycles per 15 seconds.
The SQUIRT microplate washer's unique slit manifold design sweeps a blade of liquid across the whole surface of the plate. A second manifold completes the operation by drying with an air blade. This minimizes clogging of the manifold and eliminates the 'corona effect' where cells are selectively removed from the centre of the wells during washing with traditional probe based instruments.More information

"Advances in Laboratory Automation Workcell Hardware and Software Design", paper by the paa team will be presented at the CELISCA 7th International Forum on Life Science Automation, 16th-18th September 2009 in Rostock, Germany.
Abstract 2009 has seen a growth in new ideas for the laboratory automation market. New computing ideas that are based on .NET allow new user interface software to be developed at a reduced and therefore an economic price to that previously possible. Alternative hardware designs based on advanced factory automation have given customers additional choices such removable equipment trolleys, light curtain protected safety cages and remote system monitoring. Case studies of systems that include these technologies that have been implemented will be presented.More information

Solution11 XL offers full 21 CFR Part 11 compliance for Excel. Spreadsheets are a major headache within the regulated environment, but Solution11 XL provides the answer with electronic signatures, full audit trail, easy import / export functionality and the ability to handle macro's within the regulated environment.
The provenance of each 'quality' Excel spreadsheet and template is meticulously monitored in an AES-256-bit encrypted audit trail. New workbooks can be created from 'electronically signed' templates, containing predefined methods, of known provenance.
The product is scalable, from single laptop deployment, for those on the move, to 100 concurrent users in a networked bundle. What's more, the 'quality' spreadsheets can be migrated around your company or from mobile PC to network, without compromising security.
If you would like more information on how Solution11 XL can help your company to meet the regulatory requirements, or to book personal web demonstration of the software.

Laboratory Automation News
We have been making some interesting functional changes to OVERLORD Scheduler to support one of our major customers, these features are now generally available for all our OVERLORD Scheduler customers:- Can now run multiple Assays (Schedules) that all use the same plate positions
- VBScripts in Pre-Run Tasks
- Can set Access Commands in Robot Moves Window
- Turn off plate tracking if the Assay refuses to Schedule
- Pre-Run Actions will run on all Assays in a Multi-Assay run
- Support for Plate Stacker Types. The PELS PlateStak driver has been updated to make use of this functionality (Details in the document O:\OVERLORD Clients Partners Suppliers\PE Packard\PerkinElmer Evaluation\Add PlateStak Type to Scheduler.doc
- Easier setup of new instrumentation. An XML file (C:\Program Files\Overlord Scheduler\Data\SupportedDevices.xml) listing all the drivers that have been “schedulized” is now used. Instead of having to select the DLL file, the user simply has to select from a list and all the relevant details (i.e. Estimate Time, Type) are filled in automatically.
- Shared resources are now supported. Allows a device to be used as Robot device as well (Use WinPrep as a device to control the JANUS and use WinPrep to control the Gripper). The Shared resource details are entered in the ‘SupportedDevices.xml’ file for the ‘JANUS Gripper’ and filled in automatically when selected.
- Software has gone thru a QC system and most bug fixes have been completed.
